Butch Wynegar #737
This week, a catcher who started fast, making the all star team as a 20 year old rookie and then put together a solid career with some ups and downs. It's Butch Wynegar! Butch jumped from A ball to the big leagues and was the youngest player to appear in an All Star Game. He followed that up with another sophomore appearance and was a good catcher in Minnesota for 7 years before a trade to the Yankees. He often platooned in New York and had trouble with Billy Martin and a head injury. That led him to step away from the team in 1986, giving up his salary...before a trade to California. He was a good hitter and great defensive catcher over 13 seasons.
