This week…Mike Henneman! We were joined by Ryan Fagan formerly of The Sporting News to talk about this Detroit Tigers closer born in his home town of St. Charles, Missouri…but we learned so much more about Mike, his family, and his career.
Mike Henneman went 11-3 with 7 saves and a 2.98 ERA (143 ERA+) for the 1987 AL East champ Detroit Tigers. He was the Sporting News 1987 AL Rookie Pitcher of the Year. He set the Tigers career saves record with 154 (since surpassed), was a 1989 All Star, and had a solid 10 year career, finishing up with the Rangers in 1996.
In retirement he was a rodeo rider, started a successful youth baseball program in TX, was a minor league pitching coach...and then in 2020 he found A LOT of new family members!
